Unless the goal is to know what the other person does for a living, they are better questions to ask people you want to get to know.
If you really want to know someone better and connect with them, the better question to ask would be “what do you enjoy doing?” rather than the question “what do you do(for a living)?”.
After asking the question “what do you enjoy doing?” take a step back to listen and watch as the person asked come alive as they think and share their story, inspiration and aspirations. Which is a lot richer than stating a job role at a company.
